There is no cord, no plug and no battery. Inside the mat is a Mylar layer, the same reflective film used in emergency blankets. It sends your pet's own body heat back to them instead of letting it drain into the floor.
Two things follow from that, and we would rather you know both. It does not heat an empty room — your pet has to be lying on it. And it makes the clearest difference on cold surfaces: tile, laminate, wood, a window sill.
Some take to it the first evening. Some ignore it for a week and then claim it. Putting it where they already sleep helps more than anything else.
If yours never uses it, that is what the 30 nights are for.

If your pet curls up to sleep, the smaller size is usually right. If they stretch out, go one up.
Machine washable. Wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry.
Shake it out between washes — the fleece releases loose hair easily.

In almost every case we will not ask you to send the mat back — give it to a local shelter instead, or keep it. If we do need it returned, we send you the address and cover the postage.
As long as they are on it. There is nothing to run out — the mat holds their heat while they lie there, and it is ready again the next time they settle down.
It works in a covered space like a porch, garage or outdoor shelter, as long as it stays dry. It is not waterproof, so keep it out of rain and snow.
